Homeowners should beware of home Deed selling scam!

When you purchase real estate the written document by which the property is conveyed is the Deed. After the settlement of real estate the Deed is recorded in the land records of the jurisdiction in which the property is located. Your settlement agent (title company) is responsible for facilitating the recording and further should arrange for the original Deed to be returned to you. You have already paid for this service through your settlement and closing fees. Under no circumstances should you ever need to pay an outside party to obtain a copy of your Deed. This is a scam that we have seen grow over the few years. Solicitations from companies to obtain a copy of your Deed can be very convincing and should be ignored. If you have any questions or need assistance on how to obtain a copy of your Deed call one of our Ekko Title offices and we will be happy to assist. You can read the Virginia Attorney General, AG Herrings recent warning on this Deed selling scam here. http://www.nbc29.com/Story/24907079/ag-herring-warns-consumers-of-home-deed-selling-scam.
